Things I Learned from First Month of Blogging

Hello everyone, I can’t believe that it’s been a month since I started blogging. I want to thank each of my followers and visitors for the constant support throughout my first month of blogging. I never thought that my blog would grow this much in just a month. I always wanted to write, express and share about all the things I love with everyone. What platform could have been better than a blog?

What did I learn in my first month of blogging? Blogging is definitely not easy especially when you have a full-time day job with more than 3 hours of commute per day. Before starting I thought that blogging would be more about writing and creating good content, but I was wrong. Writing is such a small part of blogging, technical issue fixing of the website, taking the photographs and editing them or finding the perfect picture for your post, having social media presence and networking takes a lot of effort. Basically, you are a writer, website administrator, photographer, resource finder, reviewer, publicist and every other role for the topics you post on the blog. Blogging is all about discovering new things, learning new ways of handling things, brushing up old things, etc. You may have 20 things lined up for writing in the beginning but blogging is a long time thing, if you are not passionate about that then you will face the writer’s block badly once those topics exhaust. Blogging with passion means you take inspiration from all little things and you can turn that into a content. If you can plan 10 topics and publish the same in your blog, you are a good blogger but what will you do when these topics will exhaust? Thus, don’t blog for the sake of blogging or posting content just because it is trending. Blogging is a way in which the author expresses his/her love for things or expresses opinions. If you are one of those bloggers who plans 10 topics but cannot publish the same just because you came with more blog post ideas for that time then you are doing it passionately. Keep up the good work. I would like to share my highs and lows from the first month with you all.

4 Things I Learned from First month of Blogging

Things that I learned in 1 month of blogging-

1. Have patience– Once you start blogging you may expect your blog to grow bigger within a few days with people pouring in your website with views, comments, follow etc. But no, it takes time, be patient. You may have a beautiful blog with extremely useful and good content but it takes time for potential readers to search and find your blog among a thousand others. It takes time to get your first views, first comment, first share, first subscription on your blog, first re-pin on Pinterest, first re-tweet on Twitter, first re-post on Instagram and all other social media channels. For beginning days or maybe a week you may wonder why readers are not reading the awesome content that you posted, hold on dear, it takes search engines to index your blog so that people can search keywords which will redirect them to your blog. Don’t lose hope, work on more such awesome content so that once a reader finds your blog they become a regular reader and maybe even a subscriber. Quality is the key here. Let’s say from your viewpoint, would you like loads of spam content with little or no value addition or you would like 2-3 good quality content? If your answer is the latter one, then you are correct. That’s what audience, as well as search engines, love, quality content which provides value addition rather than tons of content that do nothing.

2. Be social- What is a book without readers? An exhibition without viewers? A blog without its subscribers? Nothing! No matter how valuable and rich content you post, if you do not have readers then it is useless. So, one of the most important aspects of blogging is to be socially active. Be it on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest or Bloglovin, be active in all of the social channels of your blog. Social media channel shares will help you showcase your content to the world and will also help you network with other bloggers and like-minded people. Investing time on social media and making some good friends, in the beginning, will help you a lot in this big wide world of blogging. Being active on social media is the best way to grow your blog.

3. Income from the blog– My income from the 1st month of blogging is zero(0), Yes! ZERO. Everyone loves the idea of relaxing somewhere while earning loads of money for writing content from anywhere in the world. But, in order to start an earning from the blog you need quite a good number of visitors and pageviews per day. The higher the number of these, the better. If you want to have a substantial amount of earning then you need multiple ways to earn from the blog. The ways may be, Google Adsense, affiliate marketing, direct referral sales, selling your own products etc. Again, it is difficult to monetize your blog if you do not have a regular substantial amount of visitors and pageviews. Thus, quality content with good social media presence will give you your viewers which will, in turn, convert to your income. If you are passionate about writing and blogging then it will not be difficult for you to create content and earn a living from blog someday in the future. But if you are just targeting to write blogs for money then beware as there are thousands and thousands of blogs out there already. If you cannot stand out from the crowd, then you won’t rank high and won’t be paid good. Thus, if you are blogging for money and not passionate about it, then it would be difficult for you to continue blogging when you won’t earn much from it.

4. Sleepless nights- When you are a blogger as well as have a full-time job or if you are a mom or dad or have other full-time things which need your focus or time then you will surely understand this. I have a full-time day job with more than 3 hours of commute every day. Thus, writing for the blog becomes hard. As I told you before writing is a small part of blogging, getting the post ready, promoting it, replying to all comments etc takes time. So, be prepared to have sleepless nights doing these for your blog. There will be times when you are really sleepy but you really want to finish the post and publish it as you can’t wait to see the reactions of the viewers. Also, be ready to have sleepless nights editing images, finding good images for the post, customizing and formatting the post or simply fixing the code error in the website that is giving you a headache. But, work hard like this and never give up. Believe me, these sleepless nights are worth all the comments from your readers and for your income(if you earn from the blog).

4 Important things that I learned from First month of Blogging

Never get discouraged or give up if you are not getting the traffic or not earning much from the blog. Love what you are doing and write good quality posts and be original, traffic and money will follow.

For the first month, I had some goals which I passed in high colors, so happy, yay! My goals for the first month of blogging were-

1. To write atleast 2 blog posts
2. Have 100 followers
3. Reach 500 pageviews

My goals for the second month of blogging are-

1. To write more and better content
2. Reach 3500 pageviews
3. Have 100 email subscribers.

Thanks and cheers again to all my amazing readers without whom this blog wouldn’t be where it is right now.

I started my blog almost a year ago, but I consider this my first real month of blogging since im being consistent and networking and trying to make pins and pictures. You are right it is a lot different then how I first thought. It takes so much time. I just got a new planner and I planned out all the posts I wanna make for this month. On my day off im going to type them all out and have them waiting to be published. That way I can take other days off for taking pictures and editing and making pins. That way maybe it wont be too bad when I’m trying to network since I have everything else kinda done

I like your post. Thank you for sharing your experience, it is helpful to people who want to start a blog. Usually people try blogging as a source of income not passion and get stuck with why people don’t follow them, etc when they are unable to express themselves, it takes more than writing.
